If a day of art and nature in Santa Ana doesn’t seem quite your style, try the Lyon Air Museum located at 19300 Ike Jones Rd. The aerospace museum, located on the west side of the John Wayne Airport, features military aircrafts, rare automobiles, military vehicles and motorcycles, including a 1931 Panther motorcycle once owned by actor Steve McQueen, in addition to tons of World War II memorabilia. This museum is especially cool for all of the motorheads out there, since the collection includes rare and vintage German, Japanese, and American motorcycles as well as numerous automobiles. The exhibits aren’t only fascinating, but onlookers are able to get up close to the exhibits, making it easier to truly appreciate the collection.
If you’re looking for fun for the whole family, spend a day at the Santa Ana Zoo located at 1801 East Chestnut Avenue at Prentice Park in Santa Ana. Home to over 350 animals, the zoo opened in 1952 and has been operating ever since. A quirky fact; Joseph Prentice donated land for the zoo with the stipulation that the city must keep at least 50 monkeys at all times, so the zoo maintains a primate exhibit featuring over a dozen species from around the world. The Santa Ana Zoo exists for recreation, education, and conservation and hopes to share information about the animal kingdom to all who come to visit.
